From North Shore to Ala Moana — Serving Hawaii’s Original Garlic Shrimp Since 2005
Decades ago, in the small coastal town of Kahuku on O‘ahu’s North Shore, a humble shrimp stand began serving what would soon become a Hawaiian classic. Using a simple blend of butter, garlic, and fresh local shrimp, the dish quickly drew lines of hungry customers and became known island-wide as North Shore Garlic Shrimp.

The family behind Fumi’s came through a lineage of 7 generations of chefs, with deep roots in Taiwanese culinary tradition. One even served as a chef to the President of Taiwan. That craftsmanship and dedication to flavor became the foundation of the iconic North Shore recipe that locals and visitors still crave today.

Over the years, we earned a reputation for our simple, authentic, cooked-to-order garlic shrimp, right by the sea. Gradually, North Shore Garlic Shrimp would became a Hawaiian staple, and people would visit from all over Hawaii, and the world just to eat a plate fresh from the pan.
Our New Home
In 2025, a new team took on the honor of continuing the Fumi’s legacy, bringing the same North Shore flavors to Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center, Makai Food Court.

Every plate is made using the original garlic shrimp recipe passed down by the founder himself — keeping the same buttery, garlicky flavor locals have loved for generations.

Alongside the classic, new flavors like Lilikoi Lemon Shrimp and Szechuan Mala Shrimp celebrate Hawai‘i’s diverse tastes and the evolution of the island’s food scene.

This Ala Moana location remains the only place where guests can experience Fumi’s Original Garlic Shrimp, faithfully recreated from the recipe that made it famous.
